IP44 vs IP67 Industrial Sockets: Which One Should You Choose?

The IP rating is one of the most important specifications when selecting industrial sockets. IP ratings are defined under IEC 60529 and describe the degree of protection provided by enclosures against solid objects and water.

What does IP mean?

IP means Ingress Protection. The first digit refers to protection against solids and dust. The second digit refers to protection against water.

IP44

IP44 products offer protection against solid objects larger than 1 mm and splashing water.

Best for:

  • indoor workshops
  • protected outdoor areas
  • light industrial use
  • areas with occasional splashing

IP67

IP67 products offer stronger protection against dust and temporary immersion in water.

Best for:

  • outdoor installations
  • construction sites
  • marine environments
  • agriculture
  • wet industrial areas
  • harsh environments

Quick comparison

Feature IP44 IP67
Dust protection Medium High
Water protection Splashing water Temporary immersion
Outdoor use Limited / protected Strongly suitable
Harsh environments Not ideal Recommended
Cost Lower Higher

TRX recommendation

Use IP44 only in protected environments. For demanding outdoor, wet or dusty applications, IP67 is a safer and more professional choice.
